The programme introduces the mid-level senior executives to the technicalities of finance functions at length. The course shall impart conceptual and practical understanding of accounting, managerial accounting, management control systems, finance markets and corporate finance.

Description

The programme is designed for mid-level and senior executives who have had very little exposire to the Finance funtion, but who are like to assume P&L responsibility in the near future. It is also for those managers who think that their role requires significant commercial acumen for effective performance and have not been formally trained in basics of finance and acccouting. The programme will cover various topics in the field of Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Management Control Systems, Financial Markets and Corporate Finance taking a top-down perspective. The programme also has a strategic module to provide broader perspective on the business context and commercial negotations to build commercial skills.

Programme Objectives

The programme introduces the mid-level senior executives to the technicalities of finance funtions at length. The course shall impart conceptual and practical understanding of accounting, managerial accounting, management control systems, finance markets and corporate finance. The content has been structred to acquaint participants with an integrated view of financial funtion and intends to make the participants capable of making effective business decisions based on accounting information and financial analysis.

Who May Attend/Eligibility

(i) Graduates with minimum 3 years of experience

(ii) The programme is targeted at executives who are currently handling or soon going to handle Profit and Loss responsibilites and financial professionals working in the finance and accounts domain

Pedagogy:

The teaching approach will be highly interactive using the techological capabilities of the channel. The pedagogy followed for the programme will consist of a blend of lectures, case studies, online lectures, projects, peer-to-peer learning, self-learning, role play and simualtions.

Mentoring by faculty and access to learning resources of IIMA will also be made available. There will be two campus modules held at IIMA.

Course Duration:

Spread over 6-7 months.

Mode of Delivery:

The programme will be delivered on JTMRL platform through direct-to-desktop [D2D] held once a week and campus modules at IIM Ahmedabad. Non downloadable recorded sessions may be accessed, if absent, for an optional fee of INR 250/- per session (payable to JITMRL).

Evaluation Methodology

IIM Ahmedabad shall carry out the examinations, group assignments, and evaluation required for certification.

Participants are evaluated based on examinations for all the courses. Participants will be given any one of the following grades: “Satisfactory Plus” (S+); “Satisfactory” (S); “Unsatisfactory” (U). A participant will be asked to leave the programme and the fees will then be forfeited in any of the following cases:

(i) If a participant gets 2nd “U” for academic indiscipline wherein Academic Indiscipline includes cheating/copying/plagiarism in assignments and examinations and facilitating cheating in any way or is found having integrity issue during the programme.

(ii) If a participant gets 3rd “U” for under-performance.

(iii) If a participant gets 1 “U” for academic indiscipline and 2 “U” s for underperformance.

(iv) The norms of the programme require a participant to attend at least 80% of attendance to become eligible to receive the certificate, failing which a participant won't be awarded the certificate.

Certification

At the end of the Programme, eligible participants will receive a Certificate of Completion (CoC) of the Programme from IIM Ahmedabad subject to the assessment and fulfilment of attaining overall 80% attendance and evaluation criteria.

Alumni Status

Participants who are attending short-duration Executive Education Programmes for the first time, on or after April 1, 2012, will have to attend for a total of 21 days in one or more programmes in order to be eligible for alumni status and alumni identity card, both of which will be awarded on the payment of a one-time alumni fee of INR 10,000/- + GST.
